The University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for the position of Dean, College of Education and Human Development. UD seeks a dynamic, highly accomplished, and visionary leader to advance teaching, research, and service initiatives across the College.

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) has over 300 faculty and staff committed to creating the next generation of scholars and skilled professionals to enhance the quality of life for children and families in our community and around the world. CEHD has a rich research portfolio, world-class scholars, and educator and human services programs for our 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students as well as exceptional levels of engagement locally, statewide, and nationally.

Faculty in CEHD are a methodologically diverse and collegial group of nationally and internationally known scholars. They are highly research active in areas spanning human development and family science, early childhood, educational leadership, language and literacy, mathematics education, the science of learning, sociocultural approaches, quantitative methods, and educational policy. Faculty research is supported by external funding in excess of $21 million per year, and the college ranks among the top nationally in obtaining federal support for education research.

CEHD has ongoing, synergistic partnerships with school districts, non-profits, state- and national-level organizations, and policymakers. We have numerous vibrant research centers working at the nexus of research and practice, including the Center for Research in Education and Social Policy, the Center for Disabilities Studies, the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, the Professional Development Center for Educators, and the Delaware Academy for School Leadership.

The successful candidate will exhibit a strong record of scholarship and teaching as well as evidence of academic leadership at the department, college, or university level. We seek a candidate who will bring visionary leadership to the College, leverage the College’s considerable strengths while developing new collaborations, support the growth and development of new degree programs and other initiatives, and lead the College in continuing to enhance the quality of its research and instruction. We also seek a candidate who has a demonstrated commitment to social justice. The new Dean will be an integral member of a dynamic university-wide leadership team currently engaged with deepening cross-disciplinary and international programming and related efforts to broaden and deepen the University’s contribution to innovation and excellence.

The College is particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to excellence by promoting diversity and equitable opportunities through leadership in research, inclusive teaching, and public engagement or outreach. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold an earned doctorate or applicable terminal degree in a discipline appropriate for the college and have credentials commensurate with an appointment at the rank of full Professor.
